» Find another course in Humanities» Search all coursesIt will give you a thorough grounding in all the main ideas in physics from Galileo Galilei to Stephen Hawking but without the technical and mathematical details. You will also discuss whether Physics can or cannot describe a mind independent from reality.
All the important ideas in classical and quantum mechanics, heat, gases, light, sound, electricity, magnetism and atomic and nuclear physics will be covered carefully and in historical order. You will discuss whether physics will be able to explain everything.
- Identify and analyse the main theories and ideas in the realism/anti-realism debate.
GCSE level knowledge of physics ore science is recommended. The course will take you beyond A level in the ideas of physics but without the mathematical content.
Lectures, with notes, slides, demonstration experiments, some video and discussions. Students will do some simple exercises and experiments to aid their understanding.
No examinations, materials or equipment are required, nor are any extra costs incurred. The few books recommended are available from the public libraries.
