The course aims to give students a basic knowledge of Arabic, enabling them to understand how the language works and to start communication in Arabic in various situations.
Chapters 6-10 of Mastering Arabic
Themes: describing people, things and places, asking questions, countries and people, nationalities, numbers, reading and writing basic Arabic phrases.
Grammar: plurals, adjectives,.
converse in Arabic using simple structures
describe people, things, places
talk about countries, people and nationalities
use numbers
express 'how much' and 'how many'
use cultural expressions in a variety of contexts
write simple sentences using the Arabic script.
Students should have completed Arabic early bird module 1, or have an equivalent knowledge of the language. For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart, using the link at the top of this page. You can also find the chart at the start of the languages section in our course guide. You will also need to be able to understand basic spoken and written information in English (e.g. simple instructions, course documents) and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time etc).
