What topics will we cover?

A wide range of audio-visual/written material is employed to develop and reinforce students
use of Chinese language.
1. Further development of core topics. Such as travel and leisure
2. Introduction of wider socio-economic, political themes.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Students will need to have attended level 2: upper: module 1 or have an equivalent intermediate level of Chinese.
A working knowledge of 400-500 characters would be an advantage. You will also need to be able to understand basic spoken and written information in English (e.g. simple instructions, course documents) and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time etc).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Communicative/direct method approach with emphasis on speaking and listening skills. methods include
question and answer, pair practice, group and whole class work, role play. Use of audio-visual materials and
cassettes. Please note students are expected to participate in classroom activities.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

All materials are provided by the tutor. Students do not work through set texts or specific textbooks.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
