Students are expected to read assigned texts and translate excerpts in class; the teacher comments on each excerpt, encouraging all students to discuss ideas arising from their reading, about classical Greek language, culture, and history, resulting in classes that are generally lively and very interesting!

This course is one of the most challenging I've done because Thucydides is a tough nut to crack but the good humour of everyone and the tutor's cheerful guidance produced a strong 'can-do'attitude. The plague was gruesome but fascinating.

As a retired person I joined the beginners' Classical Greek course some while ago. My knowledge of Greek was very elementary, but due to the enthusiasm, encouragement and skill of my teachers I am now in the advanced group. Understanding such a great language continues to be a very enjoyable experience. I recommend the course to any age group.
