Based on the success of previous years, City Lit, the British Museum and UCL bring you another exciting day of talks, discussions and gallery visits on themes relating to Ancient Greece and Rome. Anyone with a love of the Classics is welcome. No knowledge of Greek or Latin required!

Course outline

What is the course about?

The course, which is held in partnership with the British Museum and UCL, aims to broaden your knowledge of classical themes.

Registration will start at 10.00 am and the first talk will begin at 10.30.

What topics will we cover?

Oedipus the King: what makes a tragedy
Latin writings in the British Isles
The construction and reception of Socrates
Naukratis: Greeks in Egypt
Gallery visits with guides from the British Museum.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Have some knowledge and understanding of the subjects discussed.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Anyone with a love of the Classics is welcome to join this day. No knowledge of Greek or Latin is required!

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Talks and discussions, with handouts provided. Gallery visits.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Materials will be supplied by the tutors. Coffee and tea provided during the breaks.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
