The course aims to introduce you to the language or remind you of what you have forgotten if you are rusty.
We shall be using the textbook Reading Latin (2 vols). Contact tutor for exact starting point. Reading will be combined with grammar instruction and grammatical exercises. We shall be studying the conjugation of verbs, the declension of nouns and adjectives, etc.
-demonstrate basic knowledge of active verbs
-demonstrate basic knowledge of the agreement of adjectives
-demonstrate basic knowledge of infinitives
-demonstrate basic knowledge of imperatives
-demonstrate basic knowledge of simple questions.
-have some insight into the derivation of English words
-have some insight into the world of Rome.
This course is suitable if you have already completed Latin 1: Module 1 or have an equivalent level of the language. As this course is taught in English, you should be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English and also take part in class and group discussions on readings. Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support with your English skills to help you take part fully in this class.
Whole class work. Translation, grammar instruction, grammatical exercises.
Homework: about 2 hours per week.
Reading Latin by Peter Jones and Keith Sidwell (CUP) 2 vols. Some copies are available in the Library for use during this course.
