The aim of this course is to strengthen the basis of students' knowledge of French and to introduce new structures and vocabulary. To build up confidence in all 4 skills with emphasis on speaking and listening.
Topics: buying a train ticket, booking a hotel room, describing where you live.
Grammar: prepositions, modals, introduction to the imperfect, indefinite/definite articles.

- say who does what at home.
For students who have completed French 1: module 2 and have covered units 1-6 of the French Experience 1 (BBC), new edition (2003) or who have an equivalent knowledge of the language. For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart, using the link at the top of this page. You can also find the chart at the start of the languages section in our course guide. You will also need to be able to understand basic spoken and written information in English (e.g. simple instructions, course documents) and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time etc).
Communicative teaching: emphasis on speaking and listening. Pair and group work, role-play. Audio-visual techniques including cassettes and videos when possible. Homework will be set every week and please note that students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities.
Based on the course book The French Experience 1, (BBC) new edition 2003, units 7-9. You may want to buy the CDs with the book although this is not compulsory as the tutor will provide listening activities throughout the course.
