To strengthen students' basic knowledge and to introduce new structures and vocabulary around new topics/situations. Emphasis on speaking and listening.
Topics: directions, booking a train ticket, hotel reservations, homes, leisure/hobbies and inviting someone.
Grammar: prepositions, modal verbs, consolidation of the present tense and the introduction of imperative, the future and the imperfect.

Near beginners course. For students who have completed French fast-track: module 1 or who have an equivalent basic knowledge of the language. For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart, using the link at the top of this page. You can also find the chart at the start of the languages section in our course guide. You will also need to be able to understand basic spoken and written information in English (e.g. simple instructions, course documents) and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time etc).
Communicative teaching; pair and group work, use of audios and videos when possible. Some homework required. Please note students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities.
Based on the course book The French Experience 1, (BBC) new edition 2003. You may want to buy the CDs with the book although this is not compulsory as the tutor will provide listening activities throughout the course.
