This course aims to prepare you to sit the DELF B1 examination in March 2013. It will also enable you to consolidate grammar structures and practise expressing opinions on a variety of contemporary issues.
Topics: holidays; leisure; opinions and feelings; express agreement/disagreement; complain; explain; convince; the environment; health issues; media etc.
Grammar: revision of the future tense, perfect and imperfect tenses; introduction of the plu-perfect; revision of the conditional and subjunctive; pronouns (direct, indirect, relative etc.).

-present a document (text, picture, article etc.)
-extract detailed information from recordings
-search for specific information in texts
-talk about environmental issues
-talk about leisure activities
-talk about health issues
-talk about education.
Stage 3 lower course - You should have done 3 years of French recently or have an equivalent knowledge of the language and be able to hold a conversation about everyday life, using present, future and past tenses. You should also be familiar with the conditional and the subjunctive. Interviews start from July. Please check the website for details and book early as places are limited. You will also need to be able to understand basic spoken and written information in English (e.g. simple instructions, course documents) and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time etc).
The course is based on the communicative approach:
- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate
Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please note: The course runs on Wednesday evenings and one Saturday.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
