To provide students with a knowledge of basic German for everyday situations.
Based on Willkommen units 1-4 and additional material supplied by the tutor. Greetings and introductions,
personal information, numbers, alphabet, jobs, professions and hobbies.
-use numbers and the alphabet
-greet others and introduce yourself
-give personal information (address, age, etc.)
-talk about nationalities and languages
-identify places in a town or city
-give information about professions and study
-talk about hobbies
-talk about family
-understand basic grammatical ideas i.e. genders, verb endings, personal pronouns, plural of nouns,
-state likes, dislikes and preferences.
This course is suitable for complete beginners. You will also need to be able to understand basic spoken and written information in English (e.g. simple instructions, course documents) and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time etc).
Communicative. Emphasis is on learning through hearing and speaking, reading and writing German
(vocabulary and grammar will not be taught out of context). Lessons will be lively, personal and fun. Much
use is made of visual aids, videos, cassettes and role-play in class. Some homework is essential.
