I failed to complete a language course for only the second time in 35 years of adult learning. Obviously, I must take some responsibility for this myself but I feel that the City Lit sold me a false prospectus.
Having spent six enjoyable terms studying under [another tutor], I understood this to be a follow-on course for third-year students. It wasn't.
We spent too much time on the difference between the direct object and the indirect object, on gender recognition and on adjective endings. When we moved on to prepositions taking the dative and, or, the accusative, I gave up. We were back to the half-way point in Willkommen, our course book in years one and two.
Our new course book was not specifically for English speakers and it should have been. I found it messy and confused which is probably why our teacher didn't use it as much as we used Willkommen with [another teacher].
I sympathise with the teacher in this.
I did not want to give a rating under "Quality of Teaching" because, as a former teacher myself, I know the difficulties. However, the system compelled me to give a rating, therefore I opted for two stars.
I would like to continue my German studies at the City Lit but I have to be suspicious of what you are offering.
