Course outline

What is the course about?

The course aims to enable you to communicate in a Spanish-speaking country in everyday situations, and to enjoy the Spanish language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries.

What topics will we cover?

Daily routine, parts of the body, health and welfare, making suggestions, entertainment, arranging appointments and making invitations, talking about the past.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- describe your daily routine

- talk about your health

- make suggestions

- arrange appointments and make invitations (accept and refuse)

- say what you did yesterday.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course will cover units 11-15 of Nuevo Ele - Inicial 1 (SM).
You should have completed Spanish 1: module 2 or Spanish 1 fast-track: module 1 or Spanish 1 express: module 2 or have an equivalent knowledge of Spanish e.g. Nuevo Ele - Inicial 1 (SM), units 1-10.

For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart at the start of the languages section of our course guide, or at http://www.citylit.ac.uk/courses/Languages/74. You will also need to be able to understand basic spoken and written information in English (e.g. simple instructions, course documents) and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time etc).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Communicative, functional approach with emphasis on speaking and listening. Pair and group work; role play; games; audio-visual methods.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Texbook and exercise book: Nuevo Ele Inicial 1 (SM).

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Tutor’s feedback during/after each classroom activity (see no.5 above)
