Continue learning Spanish at a rapid pace on this intensive course. With a maximum group size of 10 students, you will have plenty of opportunity to practise. Taught in Spanish, the emphasis is on speaking and listening. Suitable if you have completed 'Spanish 1 express : module 3', 'Spanish 1: module 3' or equivalent (54 learning hours). Based on units 1-5 of Nuevo Ele: Inicial 2 and exercise book (SM Publishers).

Course outline

What is the course about?

The course enables students to communicate in a Spanish-speaking country in everyday situations and to enjoy the Spanish language and Spanish and Latin-American cultures.

What topics will we cover?

Talking about the present, plans and intentions, shopping for food: quantities and prices, ordering food and drinks, saying what you have done recently, excusing yourself and making apologies, expressing opinions, agreement and disagreement.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

- talk about the present
- talk about your plans and intentions
- buy food and ask for prices
- ask for food in a restaurant
- say what you have or you haven't done recently.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This course will cover units 1-5 of Nuevo Ele - Inicial 2 (SM).
Students should have completed Spanish 1: module 3 or Spanish 1 express: module 3 or have an equivalent knowledge of Spanish e.g. Nuevo Ele - Inicial 1 (SM), units 1-15. For further details of the specific foreign language skills required for this level, please see the languages self-assessment chart, using the link at the top of this page. You can also find the chart at the start of the languages section in our course guide. You will also need to be able to understand basic spoken and written information in English (e.g. simple instructions, course documents) and be at ease with the use of numbers for daily activities (e.g. using money, telling the time etc).

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course is based on the communicative approach:

- active students’ interaction
- emphasis on speaking and listening skills
- pair and group work
- role plays
- use of realia, pictures and authentic material
- use of audio-visual techniques when appropriate

Please note, students are expected to participate in oral classroom activities and to do some homework as and when required.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
