Lesson 1 spent nearly an hour going through the course description which we could read by ourselves in 5 mins. Most lessons started with going through the homework tedious and slow. Little practice in listening and opportunities to speak limited as the class was so large (20)

I really enjoy attending this course, mainly because how the tutor teaches. Her teaching methods to make sure we understand key points for each week with relax environment do motivate people to go to the class even after tiring after work hour.

The teacher is very experienced, very pleasant in manner with all students in the class, and creates a supportive learning environment. The coursebook is well chosen and the teacher produces additional materials for the class. Some materials are available on Moodle, the City Lit VLE. The teacher adopts an active learning approach which requires participation from all students. One issue is that the students are not all at a similar level which sometimes limits the effectiveness of the activity learning designed by the teacher. Given the policy of student self-assessing the level of course they follow, it might be useful if the City Lit provided at enrolment brief information of the level of linguistic expertise expected for each coures, for example, command of which tenses, range of vocabulary etc. This is a general observation, not speciific to this course.

I was really looking forward to starting the class even though I was a little nervous. I felt that there were too many students in the class to get any real benefit and feel that thare should be a limit of 10 or 12. I missed 2 lessons due to travel then illness but the teacher was more than happy to help me 'catch up'. After my last lesson I decided not to continue with the course.
