This course is an introduction to the solo and ensemble repertoire, with technique, articulation, musicianship and tone quality taught through exploring jazz and classical pieces.

Regular practice needs to be done between classes to gain the most from the course.

You should have at least 5 years' experience, equivalent to grade 4 to 5. You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English and engage in class discussions.

You are expected to purchase your own original copies of music to be studied. Ensemble pieces will be supplied. You will need your own Bb clarinet.
Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions. You will be required to bring a piece and your own instrument to an advice session.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
