This is the 2nd year of violin playing, including reading music notation, theory and tuning your violin. By the end of the year your playing should be Grade 1 plus standard.
- Posture and movement.
- Rhythm.
- Reading and writing music.
- Sound production for bow and left hand.
- Listening for tuning and playing.
- Major and minor keys and scales.
-Tune your violin.
- Play an independent line of music in rounds and songs.
- Know the sound and structure of major and minor scales.
- Read and improvise simple tunes and rhythms.
You are expected to have learned already for about a year and should be able to play with the bow and read major scale note patterns starting on each “open” string.
- We work as a group with some individual attention from the tutor and frequent division into smaller groups. The tutor leads the class by explaining, demonstrating and playing with the group.
- The course is not linked to national “grade” exams, but we do support individuals who wish to take an exam – probably grade 1 or 2 at this stage.
- You will make good progress if you play and practise at home for about 20 minutes 4 or 5 times a week.
- You will need your own violin or viola costing about £70 or more.
- A folder for handouts and your notes is useful.
- You will need: pen, pencil, eraser, notepad and music paper.
- We will use 2 textbooks during the year costing about £10 each.
