Continue the work covered in Pop piano 1 and develop your piano technique and musicianship for playing popular music in appropriate rhythmic and harmonic language.
- Revise level 1 harmony and develop triads into 7th chords
- Meet the modes of the major scale and learn how to use them as passing notes, chord extensions and for improvisation
- Lots of rhythm and co-ordination exercises, with the expectation that you practice these between classes
- Learn songs that exemplify a variety of pop styles.
- Play styles like reggae, rock ballad and pulse-based accompaniment
- Continue to develop a good practice routine
- Improve your interpretation of chord symbols
- Begin to improvise with confidence
- Improve rhythm skills and sensitivity to time.
You will need to read music for piano and be familiar with chord symbols such as D, Dm, D7 etc. Co-ordination and understanding of the keyboard as stipulated for Pop piano 1. You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English and engage in class discussions.
You will be taught through exercises, tunes and accompaniment practised as a group; counting, practising co-ordination of hands, singing along. Some sight reading and listening to recorded examples and playing along to backing tracks.
Please bring manuscript paper and file for class music required and a pencil and rubber, and a machine to record class if you wish.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Playing in class and developing the ability to cope with keyboard parts constitutes continual assessment. Some performing as piano duos toward the end of the course.
