Learn a substantial portion of the jazz saxophone repertoire. Improve your technique, sound projection, musicianship, and ability to memorise tunes and play solos.

You should have at least 4 year's playing experience, equivalent to Grade 5. You need a good working knowledge of all major and minor scales, and the ability to sightread. Jazz experience is essential, as is the discipline to practise between classes. You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English and engage in class discussions.
Weekly practice of technical matters and study tunes. Section playing and solo playing. Tuition and coaching on a group and individual basis, with some individual feedback. Musicianship and ear training exercises.
Music will be supplied. You may need to purchase backing cds and a tutor book according to the tutor's advice.
Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
