The course will cover the requirements of each module that forms part of the course as accredited by OCN. The modules include performance/composing, musicianship, other subject modules such as Music Technology, and a choice of study skills units. You will also develop skills in essay writing and managing and improving your own learning.
Achieve the necessary practical and theoretical skills required for this course within the structured module unit list - musicianship, composing, performance, other subject modules and study skills. You will gain OCNLR credits and an Access to HE Diploma. For more information regarding the achievement of credits, please refer to the pre-course leaflet available from the Music Department.
You will need to be at grade 5 theory level or an equivalent level. You will need to play an instrument or sing at grade 5 level or higher. Entry assessment: you will be given a written paper testing their theoretical skills (circa grade 5), an aural test, a short harmony exercise and a essay based on a musical extract. You should prepare a piece to perform on your instrument/voice. You will need to be able to communicate information and ideas clearly and effectively in writing. You should also be prepared to contribute to discussion and be able to work in a group. An interview will follow and the content of the course discussed with the course tutor/s.
You will be taught in a variety of ways which include group work, practical work, written work, research and problem solving. Students will be continually assessed during the course. In order to support you with the preparation of the UCAS form, there will be one-to-one tutorials. Along with tutorial support, study skills support is integrated within the course and will enable you to develop the appropriate skills necessary in completing written assignments and in preparing application forms for Higher Education and other professional courses.
You will need to purchase workbooks and other course resources. The booklist will be given at the start of term.
