Pre-concert lectures are followed by a live performance, fee includes ticket and lecture. A varied programme of choral-orchestral gems including also Saint-Saëns and Brahms, with the Orchestra of St John’s, conductor John Lubbock. Concert starts 18:30.

The talk focuses on the choral-orchestral gems by Villa-Lobos (Bachianas Brasilieras no.5), Faure (the masterly Requiem), Bach, Saint-Saëns (2 Motets) and Brahms (4 Choruses Op.17), exploring musical structure expression and historical context. It is followed by a live performance by the Orchestra of St John’s, conductor John Lubbock, at 6.30pm.
The talk considers the music of the programmed composers and offers some listening guides to the performances in the ensuing Kings Place concert.
