What is the course about?
The course offers the opportunity to get to know the players of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the repertoire for its 2009/20010 season, through a combination of musicians' visits and lectures about the featured works.
What topics will we cover?
Eight classes per term (terms 1 and 2) on a wide range of repertoire plus two player visits (including various ensembles - a string quartet, a viola ensemble, a trumpet-and-piano duo, etc.).

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?
For anyone who loves classical music, or who wants to learn something about it.You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English, engage in class discussions and take notes in English.
How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?
By the organiser, David Nice, a well-known musicologist, and through the demonstrations given by the players of their chosen instruments.
Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?
Concert tickets will be available at half proce to all students; although you are not obliged to buy any, visiting the concert having discussed it and then being able to discuss it further is an essential part of the course.
Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?
No.
What feedback will I get?
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. By how much more you feel you get out of the music after you have learned about it.
How will I be able to give my views on the course?
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses. We will discuss the works and then give our opinions on the concert we have heard.
