Explore the relationship between Nietzsche's philosophy and Strauss's music. In the morning look at Nietzsche's ideas and in the afternoon see how these ideas influenced Strauss's music.
The course will look in detail at the main philosophical ideas put forward by Nietzsche and how this influenced Strauss's music.
-Have a greater understanding of the main philisophical ideas of Nietzsche
-Have a good understanding of the formal, melodic and harmonic charateristics of a selection of Nietzsche's works
-Have an understanding of the influence that Nietzsche had on Strauss's music.
No previous knowledge or experience needed. You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English, engage in class discussions and take notes in English.
