A broad syllabus which teaches the elements of music at an advanced level including music theory, aural, keyboard harmony skills, performance, composition, music analysis. This course is taught in combination with the access course. Please note that places are limited. Level 3 will be taught (in combination with the access course) on Tuesdays from 10.00 to 15.30 and on Wednesdays from 09.45 to 15.30. Auditions take place in July and September on a 'first come first served basis'. On this one-year programme, those at an advanced level in music can explore elements of music, general musicianship, improvisation, composition and performance. Regular attendance is necessary. Accredited by the Open College Network. Auditions take place on Tuesday 12th July 2011 at 9:45am prompt for registration and Wednesday 7th and 14th September 2011 at 10am prompt.

This is a one-year accredited course where you will gain skills in general musicianship, improvisation, harmony, composition and performance.
Music history and analysis; harmony and composition; performance (group and solo); aural dictation; aural practical and keyboard harmony.

You will need to be at grade 5 theory level or an equivalent level. You will need to play an instrument or sing at grade 5 level or higher. Entry assessment: You will be given a written paper testing their theoretical skills (circa grade 5), an aural test and a short harmony exercise. Please prepare a piece to perform on their instrument/voice. An interview will follow and the content of the course discussed with the course tutor/s.
You will be taught in a variety of ways which include group work, practical work, written work, research and problem-solving. Your work will be continually assessed during the course.
You will need to purchase workbooks and other course resources including manuscript paper. The list will be given at the start of term.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
