‘Live’ is a revolutionary package that has taken the music world by storm, whether performing with a laptop, songwriting or composing. This course is suitable for all levels, familiarising you with the core features of the software as well as providing a more in-depth look at Live's more advanced tools such as the Live Suite modules, Racks, Slicer, sub-mixing, dummy clips, video import, acapella and much more.

- Live's interface; navigating via the browser, and the session and arrange views
- Program synthesisers and samplers to create your own sounds and be able to copy those you hear
- Build your own Racks
- Warp clips, tracks and accapella.
- Structure and mix your own tracks using examples from Youtube
- Control Live with knobs faders and sliders for performance or production
- Create 'Dummy Clips'.
- Use Sidechains.
- Edit and export video to your track
- Understand how to mix, automate and perform basic mastering.
- Navigate and operate confidently in both Session and Arrange Views
- Manipulate and create sounds using oscillators, filters, envelopes and LFOs in synthesisers and samplers
- Use Drum, Instrument and Effects ‘Racks’ to apply parallel processing, velocity switching and morphing mapping controls to MIDI (keyboards and controllers)
- Use 'Warping' for 'mashups', DJing and creatively on your own clips.
- Copy structure and sounds from scratch any given genre
- 'Perform' with Live on stage or in the studio using it as an instrument.
- Trigger 'Dummy' clips pre-programmed by yourself to set in motion complex effect modulation
- Apply sidechaining to FIlters, Gates and Compression
- Export a movie with your own sound.
- Export a track ready for internet or release.
This is a mixed ability course, all levels from beginner to advanced are welcome. You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English, engage in class discussions and take notes in English.
Classes will generally begin with a demonstration and discussion followed by practical work. You will work on one of 10 Mac based workstations to practice set themes, techniques and skills, applying these to your developing ideas and material and you will regularly present your work in progress to the group. You will receive regular support, encouragement and feedback from your tutor throughout the course.
CDrs can be bought for saving your work (£0.50) or students may bring in USB flash drives to back up their work for use elsewhere. Students should always bring a note pad and pen.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will save each week's work as new files, providing a record of your progress. You may request written feedback from the tutor at the end of the course.
