Create original, catchy and memorable lyrics from scratch. Learn how to generate lyrics from your every day experiences. We will look at structure, creating a hook, imagery, scanning & rhythmn and finding your unique writing styleIn class you will edit and refine your work, listen to and analyse songs in a variety of modern genres, and discuss and show your work with constructive feedback.

- Listening to and analysing the work of singer-songwriters, bands and lyric writers in a number of genres (pop, jazz, rock, folk) from the 1930’s to the current day.
- Create original lyrics that relate to you and your experiences
- Create a chorus hook
- Structure and edit your ideas effectively
- Find your own lyric writing style
- Listen to and analyse songs in a variety of styles.
Suitable for beginners, songwriters, and singer-songwriters.
You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English, engage in class discussions and take notes in English and staff notation.
The emphasis is on practical work in class. You will be asked to complete homework to show in class.
Please bring a notebook, pen, and a USB memory stick.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. There will be continuous assessment of written and practical homework.
