For experienced singer-songwriters who can sing/play to a good standard. Lyricists also welcome and those who’ve attended the City Lit course ‘How to write Song Lyrics’. Showcase your existing work and receive support and feedback from like-minded lyricists. Collaborate with others and sing, play, edit or write a song in one day!
You will be videoed performing your finished song as a rough demo, or bring along your own recording device.

Instrumentalists and singers welcome who can play and sing to a good standard and lyricists who wish to have their work performed. Suitable for experienced songwriters, singer-songwriters and lyricists, and those who have attended the City Lit Course ‘How to Write Song Lyrics’. You will need to understand the basics of song form, word-play and imagery and have existing work to bring to class.
You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English, engage in class discussions and take notes in English.
The emphasis is on practical work in class.
Examples of your existing work on Mp3, CD or You Tube or photocopies or USB memory stick. Please bring a notebook, pen, USB memory stick. Instrumentalists please bring your guitar with you. If you wish to make a rough demo please bring along a recording device.
Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
