To enable you to achieve a good choral entity and to encourage people to sing well together in a group, and to benefit from listening to each other.
Part songs, small choral works and arrangements of popular music, introduced by both tutor and students, are all studied in detail, and built into a whole performable state.
Every class starts with vocal exercises.
- appreciate the subtleties of the dynamic changes and nuances required when performing as a group;
- sustain one vocal line when other students are singing a different one.
You will need an ability to sing in tune and to read music (the latter is not essential but is very helpful). An ability to sustain a part other than the tune is an advantage. However, you must be able to hear notes from the piano and voice and sing them back at the correct pitch. If you are unsure about your ability to do this, please attend one of our advice sessions.
You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English and engage in class discussions.
Straightforward building up of the parts, ironing out problems and difficult passages as required, and drawing attention to more prominent lines within the overall texture.
Note book and pencil, sheet music as required and perhaps a course book if required. You are encouraged to use the City Lit learning centre situated on the mezzanine level.
No.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. If a good enough standard is achieved there will be opportunities for an informal concert at the end of the course.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
