Learning to sing and make a nice sound, and finding out what it takes to be a singer.
Basic singing technique in order to understand the voice.
Efficient breathing techniques.
Pitching accurately and concentrated listening, which may include part songs.
Physical exercises to increase rhythmic awareness.
Musicianship exercises to develop aural skills.
- feel more confident about singing and using your voice;
- feel more able to pitch notes correctly and learn songs;
- show more understanding about the music you hear.
Absolute beginners, for anyone not confident in singing, however, you must be able to hear notes from the piano and voice and sing them back at the correct pitch. If you are unsure about your ability to do this, please attend one of our advice sessions
You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English and engage in class discussions.
Breathing and vocal exercises will be followed by group singing of songs. Eventually you may feel able to sing a solo or duet.
You will be encouraged to practise for a minimum of 15 minutes daily.
Music will be provided at the beginning of the course, but you may be expected to provide your own sheet music later on. You are also encouraged to use the City Lit learning centre situated on the Mezzanine level.
Please bring a notebook, pen/pencil and a folder to organise your music.
No.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
