A chance to continue learning in a safe, confidence-building environment, and to prepare students who want to progress onto a 'Basic technique for solo singing' course or one of the popular music singing classes.
Vocal exercises, becoming more advanced throughout the course.
Breathing exercises.
Posture and relaxation.
Musicianship as it relates to aural awareness and to basic notation.
You will be given advice on how to practise and will be expected to do some homework.
Feel more confident singing in class and outside
Sing songs and sustain a harmony line
Demonstrate a familiarity with musical notation and aural awareness
Understand what is involved in the process of becoming a singer.
For those students who have completed 'Find your voice' or 'Singing for Absolute Beginners', or have some experience of singing, not necessarily in a group setting, however, you must be able to hear notes from the piano and voice and sing them back at the correct pitch. If you are unsure about your ability to do this, please attend one of our advice sessions
You will need to follow written and verbal instructions in English and engage in class discussions.
Singing exercises and songs mainly in the group context.
Some singing individually, in order to prepare for progression into solo singing classes.
You will be encouraged to give as well as receive feedback in order to enhance aural awareness.
The repertoire will be a mixture of styles and may be in a variety of languages.
There will be discussion arising from work in progress.
You are encouraged to practise for a minimum of 30 minutes daily.
Note book,pencil and folder, sheet music as required. You are encouraged to use the City Lit learning centre situated on the mezzanine level.
Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will be advised on which course to progress to. There may be an end-of-course concert from which you will get further feedback.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
