New! Photography space at City Lit
In March City Lit opened a new photography space, City Lit Photography. The space will be officially launched in April, and it will accommodate a whole new range photography courses starting in September. The new courses include sports and action, fashion, old photography processes, genealogy, philosophy, and courses run jointly with the Photographers Gallery, as well as the wide range of courses which were, until recently, run at City Lit’s main building in Keeley Street. City Lit Photography is in Kean Street, less than 5 minutes away from the main City Lit site on Keeley Street.
Mac Campeanu, Head of Photography at City Lit, said, “The demand for such a programme has been demonstrated by the growing number of students we attract who say there is a gap for such accessible provision in central London. We will be doing our best to fill this gap in a coherent and linked way.
"Photography can be used and studied in so many ways that City Lit Photography can only ‘scratch the surface’ of the subject, but putting on such a wide ranging programme will hopefully lead to ‘cross fertilisation’ and students (and tutors) exploring areas they would not normally consider. We are probably unique in having a programme which encompasses practical courses for beginners through to those which study photography with philosophy.”
The new programme of courses is suitable for beginners, advanced amateurs and professional photographers. Academics and researchers, as well as those interested in interpreting and analysing photographs will also find something of interest, as well as those wanting to develop and improve their craft and technical skills. The studio has a full range of professional lighting equipment and background systems, along with digital imaging workstations and industry standard software (such as Photoshop CS4 and Lightroom) for each student.
