The course is suited to you if you want to learn how to use your camera's manual settings, so that eventually you can use it creatively.
You will learn about the functions of the camera (aperture, shutter speed, depth of field, lenses, exposure, composition, studio lighting) and will be encouraged to develop an awareness of photographic practices and how to convey meanings with photographs. You will also learn how to import your images in Photoshop and produce basic alterations.
- make use of the manual settings on your camera
- begin to use shutter speed and depth of field creatively
- import images into an image editing program (Photoshop), perform simple edits and output to a CD
- use appropriate digital file types and resize for various outputs (email, web, print).
The course is for complete beginners or for those willing to take a refresher course in the basics of photography.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
You will be taught with workshops, short lectures, practical exercises, tutorials and handouts. You will also have the option to pursue an individual project.
You will be expected to purchase the materials for your use.
No.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
