The course is about your rights when working in a public place, particularly when photographing buildings. It will cover photography of private and public buildings from a public space. Some of the session will be devoted to photograph in private developments, such as shopping malls.
A full course outline will be given out at the first session.

How to deal with security guards in public places.
-State photographers’ rights regarding photography in a public place
-Identify when a filming permit is required
-Describe how to react when confronted buy security guards who claim that photographing the building is not permitted
-Describe your rights to a police officer.
This course is aimed at anyone who films, paints, or draws in a public place, either amateur or professional. It may also be of interest to anyone concerned with civil liberties.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
The lecturer, Grant Smith has considerable first-hand experience of the misuse of section 44 of the Terrorism Act. He is one of the organisers of ‘I’m a Photographer, Not a Terrorist’, and has campaigned for the suspension of s44. The session will be lecture based with hand-outs and an audio-visual presentation.
There are no additional costs. You may wish to bring a notebook to make notes about the lesson.
