You will be exploring how to photograph aspects of London, using photography to have a fresh look at its architecture, green spaces and people. You will be learning photographic techniques that help you photograph the city and its inhabitants.
Creative and classic architectural photography, street photography and photographing people.
- present a set of photographs that show the character of the places visited.
- understand the technical and creative challenges of taking photographs of aspects of London.
A basic knowledge of the camera is essential for this course. Bring a camera which has a semi automatic and manual setting - it can be either film or digital. Bring a tripod and external flash if you have one.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions, demonstrations, hand-outs and health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
Lectures and demonstrations. Practical exercises. Discussion and individual tutoring as well as group work. Practical project work. Looking at photographs and work produced during the course.
You might need to pay for up to three rolls of film, together with processing and printing - you can use colour or black and white. You might incur travel expenses within London to get to locations, although attempts are made to use locations within walking distance of City Lit.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
