You should have knowledge of how to use a camera on a manual setting, with an understanding of shutter speeds, aperture and ISO. Some experience of photographing people is preferable. You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
Please look at the rest of the course outline carefully to decide if you may benefit from support in your English and Maths skills to help you to take part fully in this class.
Through a carefully structured programme of interactive classes, this will include presentations, demonstrations and group discussions. You will be asked to bring in examples of your work and influences. We will mix practical exercises with learning about relevant contemporary art issues to develop and apply to your photographic practice.
You will need access to a camera that can be operated on manual mode. You can borrow a City Lit digital SLR during the hours of attending the City Lit.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will produce practical work and will receive focused feedback on your work, interests and concerns; so that you can continue to develop these in a relevant way throughout the course.
