The art and science of making photographs of very small objects. This course helps you explore the world of close-up and macro photography and the difference between them. Although essentially practical, the course also examines the uses of close-up and macro techniques in science, and as a technique for creative work. A limited amount of specialist equipment will be available.

- Practical sessions: enabling you to make your own close-up or macro photographs.

- Ideas for exhibiting your images or publishing them on the web.
- Know the difference between close-up and macro photographs.
- Choose appropriate equipment, lighting and techniques for a range of subjects.
- Have made some close-up photographs.
- Know more about photos from science and nature, having looked at examples and discussed ways of using close-up techniques creatively.
This course is suitable for beginners to photography and the specialism of close-up photography but you should be able to use the basic functions of your camera.
You should be able to follow simple written and verbal instructions to support demonstrations, hand-outs and for health and safety information, and will be invited to take part in group discussion. You should be able to use numbers and be able to do simple measurements and calculations.
