What is the course about?

This is a photography course for people with learning disabilities. Learn to use your smartphone or a digital camera to take pictures and then edit them using a computer ready to post online, print out as artworks or make into a book.

What will we cover?

Looking at and discussing the work of famous photographers, choosing a subject to photograph and visit places of interest, composing the picture, exploring lighting, cropping your pictures and adjusting levels, adding text, using effects and printing.

What will I achieve?
By the end of this course you should be able to...

Have more confidence and skill to get the most out of your smartphone to take photographs, use a single lens reflex digital camera, discuss what makes a good photograph, choose which of your pictures you want to show to people, and understand the process of photography from taking pictures to making prints.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is a course that is suitable for beginners, if you have some experience of photography, your teacher can take your skills further by helping you work on a project of your choice.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will be taught in a small group and you will be given one-to-one help with your project. There will be opportunities to go out on visits to places nearby, including galleries.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no other costs, there might be occasions when you will use public transport to visit places in central London. Bring your smartphone or digital camera if you have one, otherwise we will have cameras for you to use.

When I've finished, what course can I do next?

You might be interested in doing one of our learning disabilities art classes, another option would be to do a mainstream photography course-we can advise you on this.
