Course outline

What is the course about?

The aim of the course is to provide an expressive outlet for you to work with a variety of art materials and techniques, and to improve your drawing and painting skills.

What topics will we cover?

There will be opportunities to devise individual projects based on personal interests.
Produce paintings and drawings in a wide range of media including acrylic, pencil, pen, pastel and mixed media.
Work on a group project selected by the group.
Document and record artwork using video and digital camera.
Sketching visits to museums and galleries.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Use the Internet in class to research an art project.
Make paintings based on personal research.
Use the data projector to enlarge images.
Produce a portfolio of paintings and drawings.
You will negotiate with the tutor more specific outcomes, based on the above, to suit your ability and experience.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is for students with learning difficulties and with mixed ability in the subject.Before the course starts, you should be able to concentrate for short periods, join in class activities with some or no support and show an interest in art.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Group discussion
One to one tuition
Tutor demonstration of materials and techniques.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Feedback from the tutor. Self assessment, supported by the tutor. Termly tutor reports. We will assess individual planned learning outcomes, and your personal goals, on Statements of Learning throughout the course.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses. Student feedback is encouraged throughout the course. All students have a personal tutor to whom they can give feedback about their courses. There will be an opportunity to evaluate your course at the end.
