Term 1
- We will explore different methods of fabric printing; screen printing, block printing and transfer
- We will look at a range of source images and develop our own motifs and designs .
Term 2
- We will try out different ways of colouring fabric, tie-dyeing, batik. You will experiment with layers of colour and texture by overlaying colours and techniques. You will produce a dyed and coloured fabric bag or pillowcase.
Term 3
- In this class you will develop designs to wear. You will draw and cut stencils, mix printing inks and print your own T-shirt.
- We will look at work by Textile designers and get ideas from books, photos and exhibitions.
- We will work on individual projects and will produce a large group project.

- Use dyes to tie-dye
- Experiment with tjanting tools to make marks with hot wax
- Resist-dyeing using 'batik' techniques
You will negotiate with the tutor more specific outcomes, based on the above, to suit your ability and experience. There will be some literacy skills embedded in the course.
The course is for students with learning difficulties and with mixed ability in the subject. You need to be able to participate in shared activities with less support and sustain concentration for short periods. You need to be able to show an interest in the subject.

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Feedback from the tutor. Self assessment, supported by the tutor. Termly tutor reports. We will assess individual planned learning outcomes, and your personal goals, on Statements of Learning throughout the course.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses. Student feedback is encouraged throughout the course. All students have a personal tutor to whom they can give feedback about their courses. There will be an opportunity to evaluate your course at the end.
