We will listen to and learn to play and sing traditional music from different countries.
- playing hand drums in a group
- singing group chants, choruses and songs
- adding different parts on voices and instruments to make interesting arrangements.
- sing and play some new songs, choruses and rhythms from different countries
- improve your singing and playing techniques where you need to
- play simple rhythms accurately, or improvise your own rhythms during call and response drumming
- develop your skills in reading words or pictures to help you remember the music
- remember your parts when performing the music
You will negotiate with the tutor more specific outcomes, based on the above, to suit your ability and experience.
The course is for students with mixed musical ability and with a learning difficulty. You need to be able to respond to familiar stimuli, use words or signs to choose or discuss and to take turns in a group (not necessarily verbally.) You need to be able to show an interest in the subject.

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Feedback from the tutor. Self assessment, supported by the tutor. Termly tutor reports. We will assess individual planned learning outcomes, and your personal goals, on Statements of Learning throughout the course.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses. Student feedback is encouraged throughout the course. All students have a personal tutor to whom they can give feedback about their courses. There will be an opportunity to evaluate your course at the end.
