Course outline

What is the course about?

In term 1 you will focus on developing skills in building and portraying different characters.
In term 2 you will explore the way that people act and react in different situations.
In term 3 you will learn to create and shape drama for performance by developing ideas from a story or text.

We will work toward giving a performance of our work to an audience of friends and family. Topics and ideas for improvisations will be negotiated with the group.

What topics will we cover?

- Physical exercises for body strengthening, co-ordination and suppleness
- Movement work
- Character work
- Improvisation and story work
- Working towards performance.

You will negotiate with the tutor more specific outcomes, based on the above, to suit your ability and experience.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

The course is for students with learning difficulties and with mixed ability in the subject. You need to be able to respond to simple prompts and questions about familiar events, experiences and personal detail. You need to be able to show an interest in the subject.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

You will negotiate with the tutor more specific outcomes, based on the above, to suit your ability and experience.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Feedback from the tutor. Self assessment, supported by the tutor. Termly tutor reports. We will assess individual planned learning outcomes, and your personal goals, on Statements of Learning throughout the course.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses. Student feedback is encouraged throughout the course. All students have a personal tutor to whom they can give feedback about their courses. There will be an opportunity to evaluate your course at the end.
