This workshop will explore the origins, manifestations and defences of envy and jealousy. Theory, experiential group and pair work, poetry, story and clinical vignettes will get us in touch with these powerful emotions, leading ultimately to integration. This course is aimed at counsellors, other helping professionals and trainees. It is not aimed at people seeking help for the specific course subjects.

Describe some of the psychological theories relating to envy and jealousy.
Describe a compassionate approach towards envy and jealousy in oneself and others.
Explain some strategies and clinical ways of dealing with envy and jealousy.
Identify your own feelings of gratitude.
The course is open to Counselling and Psychology professionals and all those interested in exploring these human emotions. No particular skills are required but you will gain most if you have a willingness to examine these feelings and states of mind.
There will be presentation of theory followed by discussion and experiential exercises. Pair work, group work, visualisations, movement to music, poetry and story, will be used to get us closer to the subject. Active participation will be encouraged.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
