The course will develop a range of counselling skills, consistent with the core conditions of the Person-Centred approach; inter-action with other students in a personal development group.

Awareness of diversity & difference
Giving & receiving constructive feedback in skills practice sessions
Personal development; ability to reflect on self and interactions with others.
Feel more confident in using listening and a range of other counselling skills
Describe some boundaries and ethical issues in counselling
Identify somw ways in which cultural differences may affect the counselling relationship
Reflect on the self and on inter-actions with others.
The level is post-beginner. Students are asked to come willing to:
a) Draw on their own experience
b) Be open to those of other students.
The emphasis is on learning through experience. There will be skills practice and large group experience. You will be asked to keep a journal as a way of reflecting on yourself and your learning throughout the course. Towards the end of the course you will be asked to produce a brief self-assessment which summarises your learning.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. a) Completing your Satement of Learning which will be endorsed by your tutor
b) Written feedback in response to your Self Assessment, based on your Learning Journal.
