Course outline

What is the course about?

Dreams speak to us in creative ways about ourselves and our lives. On this workshop you will become more acquainted with the language of signs, imagery and symbols, explore creative visualisation techniques and develop ‘dreamworking’ methods for healing, self discovery and transformation.

What topics will we cover?

During the course we will look at the meaning of our images, dreams and symbols in relation to healing and personal unfoldment. This will include:

What is dream and symbolic work? Humanistic and transpersonal views, eg. Gestalt, Jung, Assagioli
5 types of dreams according to transpersonal psychology
Explore the place of dream and symbol as a bridge between inner and outer selves
Use of the ‘waking dream’ method to track the meaning of dreams and take them forward
Concentration and visualisation practises to help promote emotional, mental and physical well-being.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Have a basic understanding of dreamwork as a therapeutic tool
Use some practical counselling methods such as visualisation, inner dialogue, dream association and amplification. Start a dream symbol journal for self development.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

This is an introduction course for anyone interested in exploring their own symbol and dream-making process. No previous experience or knowledge of dreamwork is required.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

To facilitate learning, the course will include relevant theory, discussion, pair and small group work. Exercises will include inner dialogue, dream associations, student reflection, journal writing.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

There are no other costs. Please bring a pen. Handouts will be given during the class.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
