The course provides a practical introduction to effective living, as described in Stephen Covey's '7 Habits', Cutler and Dalai Lama's 'The Art of Happpiness', and Goleman's Emotional Intelligence. You will learn how the best ideas from these self-help publications can help you live more effectively.
The course will cover a number of topics relating to effective living, which is likely to include good time management, more fulfilling relationships, clarifying values, gaining more emotional intelligence and becoming happier.
Name at least five of the habits that have been recommended for effective living.
Select at least three of these that you find particularly helpful for your own life.
Identify specific ways that you can start putting at least one of these habits into practice in your life.
Introductory; no prior knowledge is assumed. Those who have read the book will, it is hoped, find much to stimulate them further.
A combination of lecturing, group and class discussion, and small group activities.
Handouts will be given out on the day together with recommended reading. It would be useful to have familiarity with one or more of the following books (some are available in libraries):
Stephen R Covey, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People (1989)
Daniel Goleman, Emotional Intelligence (1995)
Bertrand Russell, The Conquest of Happiness (1930)
Howard Cutler and the Dalai Lama, The Art of Happiness (2002).
No.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
