The course is about child development and the ways in which nature and nurture interact throughout this process.
Early social development, attachment and day care, methods used to study infants, teenagers, culture and development.
Understand the how nature and nurture interact in development,
Understand the importance of culture and the environment in development
Appreciate the different methods used to study infants
Appreciate the main theories of development.
The course is introductory and you will need to speak English fluently in order to participate in discussions and exercises.
Teaching will consist of group work and short interactive lectures. Students will be given suggestions for further optional reading on the topics covered.
The following books are suggestions for recommended reading (optional):
'Understanding Children's Development' by Smith, Cowie and Blades
'The cradle of thought' by Peter Hobson.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
