Course outline

What is the course about?

This course provides an opportunity to learn some key coaching techniques as well as practise them. It is aimed at professionals with responsibility for others or anyone who wants to find out more about coaching techniques designed to facilitate and encourage personal development.

What topics will we cover?

This course will include a variety of topics:
An overview of the most frequently used models of coaching.
Basic coaching skills, such as listening, questioning, goal-setting etc.
Issues around ethics in coaching.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Understand the principles underpinning frequently used models of coaching.
Be aware of coaching techniques.
Achieve some practise of coaching techniques.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

Suitable for anyone who needs/wants to acquire some basic coaching skills.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

Experiential learning with the opportunity to coach each other. Also, there will be discussion, group and pair work, as well as tutor input Please note students are expected to verbally participate in classroom activities and discussion.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

Please bring paper/notebook and pen. Some handouts will be provided.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You will assess your own progress through your understanding of the principles and skills covered. You will have the chance to practise your new skills in a safe setting.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
