Course outline

What is the course about?

If you are always putting things off, or feel stressed about not making decisions or sticking to those youve made, this course will help you explore these issues. Understand how putting things off affects you, and find ways to change the pattern. This is an experiential course to help students assess what gets in the way of action and achieving desired aims. It will give you an opportunity to create manageable goals, and open up ways to achieve them.

What topics will we cover?

The stages of procrastination, its causes and effects.
How to work with the blocks which get in the way of action and decision-making.
The beliefs and attitudes about yourself which stand in the way of action.
Achievable ways to manage your time and life as you would like it.

By the end of this course you should be able to:

Understanding of why you procrastinate and realise you are not alone.
Have resources to overcome procrastination, to clear blocks in the way of action.
Have tools to think more clearly about time-management and decisions.

What level is the course and do I need any particular skills?

No prior training, experience or skills are necessary, just a willingness to take part. The course is interactive, so students need to demonstrate a reasonable level of spoken English in order to benefit from the course. Students are asked to consider particular areas in which overcoming procrastination would improve their lives.

How will I be taught, and will there be any work outside the class?

The course will be a mix of student-led exercises and tutor input. The course is interactive; students are encouraged to draw on their own experiences and feelings and to be open to those of other students. The setting will be supportive, confidential and safe. There will be theoretical input by the tutor, and exercises for work in pairs and small groups, with adequate time for group discussion and review.

Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring?

No. You will be given useful handouts during the workshop, and recommendations for further reading.

Do I need to have an interview before I can enrol?

No.

What feedback will I get?

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. You can expect your tutor to give you feedback both individually and through group discussion. At the end of the course you will be given the opportunity to complete a record of your achievements which will be verified by your tutor.

How will I be able to give my views on the course?

Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.

How do I find out if I can get some support for my learning?

You may be interested in: education and careers advice; financial and childcare support; disability support; support for Deaf and hearing-impaired students; dyslexia support; English and maths support; counselling, and library services (supported learning centre).
