This session explores how assertive behaviour and communication can help relationships in the workplace, between managers and staff and between peers, by encouraging openness and co-operation.

The impact of passive and aggressive behaviours at work.
Assessing your behaviour and colleagues’ behaviour.
Asking for your needs to be met in the workplace.
Saying ‘no’
Giving and receiving criticism.
Expressing feelings appropriately at work.
Self Esteem and Assertiveness.
Session debriefing: learning points and individual commitments to change.
Recognise the value of assertiveness in the workplace.
Have a clearer picture of your needs at work and how to ask for them assertively.
Have strategies and practical skills to deal constructively with poor performance and behaviour.
NOTE: It is important to be realistic about how much will be covered in a short course. The course will offer you the opportunity to practise dealing with situations at work where you'd like to be more effective and offer skills and strategies to approach difficulties and so apply them to other situations.
Open to all.
The learning is interactive to encourage each individual to participate and gain personally and includes discussion and practical exercises. Also includes, self-assessment of behaviour, practising how to handle scenarios (case studies) and real life situations. There might be individual exercises for you to peruse in your own time.
There are no extra costs. Books mentioned on the course can be purchased at a later time if you wish.

You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made. Self-assessment, peer and tutor feedback. You will also have the opportunity to reflect on your learning at the end of the course and to identify future learning goals.
