A Christmas Carol

December 2011

On Saturday 4th December I was lucky enough to catch the last performance of the C L Theatre Company’s A Christmas Carol and was gratefully reminded of what Christmas should be about.

Vernon Thompson expertly directed a truly ensemble cast who were able to reveal the humour and deep pathos in Dickens’ morality tale that seemed more relevant today than ever. The Company worked beautifully together and the standard of work was extremely high with some gorgeous carol singing, rousing dance sequences and, most memorably for me, the very moving scene of “Christmas to Come” when the Cratchits spend the day without Tiny Tim.

The power of this Redemption tale affected the entire audience who laughed and, in some instances, cried but left ultimately uplifted and reminded why this story remains so potent.
