This practical one day course focuses on helping you get your voice out and express who you are through your voice and speech. It introduces the essential physical skills of effective voice and speech. We shall explore how the voice is part of a dynamic system that depends on a cooperation of body, feelings and mind. In addition to improvements in your voices, you will gain physical confidence and presence, and understand how your voice is an opportunity to create bridge between your world and the world of your listener. The course will allow space for group and pair exercises.
- Develop awareness of how body posture and body language affects your voice, your mood and your listener
- Free up your breathing with physical exercises for a more expressive and powerful voice
- Create more tone and resonance in your voice
- Exercises for clearer speech and muscular articulation
- Engage more confidently with others through the use of your breath, body and voice
- 5 Ps of pitch, pace, punch, pause and pull for vocal variety and range.
- Understand how you can free up your voice
- Sound, look and feel like you mean what you say
- Boost your impact and influence through powerful gestures
- Awareness of how your breathing affects your voice speech and your relationship to your listener
- Care for your voice and manage your vocal energy.
Suitable for complete beginners to voice work, as well as those who have had experience and would like a fresh perspective on giving voice.
Practical voice exercises as a whole group, smaller groups of 3 or 4 and pairs. There will also be space for group feedback and discussion after the exercises.

Yes. Before you can enrol on this course, you need to have an advisory interview with the relevant department. Without this the enrolment team will be unable to process your enrolment. Please contact the department to arrange your interview, or to find out about drop-in sessions.
You will receive regular feedback from your tutor throughout the course, as and when appropriate. At the end of the course you and your tutor are asked to assess the progress you have made.
Please complete the evaluation form at the end of your course. These are monitored and help us to continually improve our courses.
